A Vancouver bakery will be helping to make the South Granville ArtWalk a little sweeter on Saturday (June 21). TARTS Bakery (1509 West Broadway) will offer “art tarts” featuring edible replicas of paintings found in South Granville art galleries printed onto desserts.

On a phone interview with the Georgia Straight, Lisa Coan, who co-owns TARTS Bakery with her sister Shawna Coan, explained that five-inch tarts will include either a lemon or cheesecake filling (the cheesecake filling is available in raspberry or chocolate brownie flavours) on a flaky, buttery crust. Tarts will be priced at around $6, and $1 from each tart sale will be donated to charity.

“We were so inspired by the wonderful warmth and community spirit of the ArtWalk event last year that we wanted to add another meaningful element to the festivities,” Lisa Coan said.

Participating art galleries—including Bau-Xi Gallery where artist Cori Creed will be painting on Saturday, Ian Tan Gallery, Elissa Cristall Gallery, Douglas Reynolds Gallery, and Fragrant Wood Gallery—have each selected charities that will benefit.

“Art tarts” can be purchased at TARTS Bakery during the ArtWalk between 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the shop. Coan will also be selling tarts that display Creed’s work at Bau-Xi Gallery between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The South Granville ArtWalk runs Saturday (June 21) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
