The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors Carnaval del Sol

The sixth annual Carnaval del Sol festival takes over the Granville Street mall from July 5 to 6. The two-day celebration of Latin American culture, cuisine, and music is presented by Latincouver and enjoyed by thousands of people each year.

At this year’s festival, enjoy traditional and contemporary live music and dance performances on the main stage. Performers include Will Campa and the Grand Union from Cuba, Pacifika, MexicoVivo, Alma Chevere, and more.

New to the festival is the Latin America House at the Edgewater Casino (750 Pacific Boulevard), where FIFA World Cup soccer will be shown on three 18-foot screens. Also new to the festival is the Viva Plaza at Robson Square on July 5. The plaza will feature a large dance floor, where dance instructors will be teaching the basic steps to various Latin-styles of dance to DJ’d music.
