Grouse Mountain grizzly bears awake from hibernation

Imagine what it would be like to emerge from a 146-day sleep.

That was the reality this week for Grinder and Coola, the two resident grizzly bears at Grouse Mountain Resort.

Grinder was taken into captivity in 2001 after being found emaciated and weighing just 4.5 kilograms in Invermere. He was wandering down a logging road without his mother.

Coola was orphaned in the same year near Bella Bella.
