How to vote on Twitter in the Georgia Straight's 2014 #BestOfVan survey

How do you judge what makes a Twitter user great?

@sliceofpai_ makes us hungry with an eye for photos that can make a pile of old tomatoes look like the most delicious thing ever. @KingsgateMall keeps it real in Mount Unpleasant. And @pqpolitics might send out more at-replies than anybody else in the city.

Whatever your criteria for the best Twitter personality in Vancouver, we want to hear about it.

This is for fame and glory in the Georgia Straight’s 19th annual Best of Vancouver survey. Winners will be declared on September 18. And every vote you cast via a post on Twitter enters you in a contest for a trip* for two to the world-famous Kā`anapali Beach Resort in Maui!

We’re taking votes for three #BestOfVan catagories on Twitter this year.

1) Best local tweeter
2) Best local app
3) Best local tech startup

@RioTheatre is the only entertainment venue in Vancouver to be Twitter verified (and, they’ve told me, they have no idea why). We were unaware salads were so exciting until @CulverCitySalad came along. And if it weren’t for @bestiewurst, we wouldn’t know where to go for important PSAs (public sausage announcements).

@WeAreTheCity offers a fun peek at life on the road. So does @teganandsara, come to think of it. @craignorthey of @oddsmusic can always be counted on for irreverent observations of life's wackier aspects. And @BarJonesing is worthy of a loud shoutout because who doesn’t love a corporate account where zero fucks are given?

Photos on the @balletbc account are simply stunning. @SethRogen—meh, he’s sorta funny. And @VHS, seriously, how did you guys score a three-letter Twitter handle as late as 2009?

@ScanBC is great for a laugh every time VPD cops are dispatched to run down a couple of teenagers spotted with a joint. @UBCIC does a terrific job delivering scoops on First Nations issues. Wondering what an unfiltered politician on Twitter sounds like? That’s @sarahblyth.

Every political reporter in the city follows @InsiderDoug for often fascinating insight from within City Hall. I personally have a soft spot for @the9oclockgun. And @MayorGregor earns an honourable mention for tweeting long past midnight (which, I’ve been assured, are genuine messages written live by the mayor himself).
