Couldn't make it out last night? You missed Australian alt-rock legends Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at the Orpheum. Shannon Hemmett was there and caught a moment of the show on Instagram. Here’s your concert pick of the morning. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at the Orpheum Theatre on July 1, 2014. Thanks Shannon.

Most weekdays and occasionally on the weekend, the Straight highlights a shot from one of the previous night's music events. It's our Concert Pic of the Morning. I was there, in the lower balcony, and it was fantastic, what I saw of it, because unfortunately nick cave loves to interact directly with the audience and that took him OFF the stage and into the crowd for long stretches, and, with the balcony sight lines designed for a perfect view of just the stage, those of us up there could NOT see his performance, for probably 30-40% of the time. Either he knew and didn't care, or somebody should have told him. Either way, that part of it sucked.

Have to agree with Alan G. Cave always puts on a great show (and this was a great show if you were amongst the high paying lucky ones on the floor level) but a great show sould be for all the fans to see not just the Fat Wallets. Inviting the audience to 'come down' is not helpful when we all know full well there is not a hope in hell of security letting you in . Add to that the obnoxious security guy on the balcony pouncing on any unfortunate member of the audience trying to take a snapshot of the fleeting Cave when he was front and centre and you have the makings of an US and THEM feel to the evening. With the 'missing in action' Cave, anyone on the upper decks petty much had to make do with an above avarage performance. Watching the highlights on YouTube not so much fun. Maybe he should save the crowd wading (amazing though it is) for those venues more suited and maybe not treat the back of the audience as an afterthought.
