The fourth annual Your Kontinent Film & Media Arts Festival takes place at the Richmond Cultural Centre from July 17 to 26. The celebration of arts, culture, as well as personal and global interconnectedness profiled notable and emerging Canadian and international media artists.

Co-presented by Cinevolution Media Arts Society and the City of Richmond, the Your Kontinent Film & Media Arts Festival kicks off with an opening ceremony July 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Minoru Plaza. Artist Vjeko Sager will give a special performance and unveil his divination Tower. This new work interprets an ancient practice meant to bring one closer to the spiritual world. During the duration of the festival, Sager will live atop the divination tower, where he will tweet, blog, and video transmit his creative process.

Other festival highlights include the Theatre Under the Sky program at the Lansdown Centre parking lot on July 18. This year’s program features theatre performances, live music, art activity booths, and a screening of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away.

The expanded Dim Sum Movie program includes Red Obsession at Shiang Garden on July 26 and Mussels in Love at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery on July 20.

New to this year’s festival is a curated “technology and society” film selection, which will encourage audiences to rethink their relationships with technology. Films include PressPausePlay on July 25, High Tech, Low Life on July 25, and Web Junkie on July 25.

This year’s festival workshops include a women’s writing workshop on July 23 with Margaret Dragu, flipbook animation with Yurina Takeuchi on July 20 and 26, and a young artist’s media art camp from July 21 to 25.
