Squamish Valley Music Festival Act of the Day: SJS

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Like Halloween, when the early October fogs start to roll in, and Kanye West when he isn’t cancelling his shows the day they are supposed to happen, it’s starting to feel like it’s almost here.

Yes, we’re talking about the Squamish Valley Music Festival, taking place August 8 to 10 at the Logger Sports Grounds and Hendrickson Fields. In anticipation of the big event—headlined by Eminem, Bruno Mars, and Arcade Fire—we’re spending the next few weeks rounding up local artists who’ll be playing the open-air party, and getting them to answer some important questions.

Like who they’ll be cueing up on the iPod for the Sea-to-Sky drive to the site, what they’ll be making sure to pack to make it through their set, the all-time dream-festival lineup, and who they plan to stalk backstage. Read on, but not before you pick up your Squamish Valley Music Festival ticket. The last thing you want to miss is today’s spotlighted act...

      Featured artist

Despite the dirt, sweat, and stink covering everyone's bodies, it's easy to get lucky at an outdoor music festival, and the crew responsible for Slow Jam Sundays are bringing the best baby-making music around to Squamish this year. Since the summer of 2012, Ariel Swan and Aaron Dudley have been hosting this sexy video dance party at venues across Vancouver, with DJs Marlon J. English and P-Luv spinning old- and new-school slow jams. What started as a small night with a few friends has turned into one of Vancouver biggest, most-sought after parties. So, if you're gonna get frisky with your newest special friend at Squamish, it's probably gonna be after these fine folks show up.

A Tribe Called Quest Low End Theory

      Whole album, enough said!

      The Roots "You Got Me"

      Outdoor essentials

      • Lube
      • Baby wipes
      • Vodka
      • SJS hat, to keep the sun off
      • Condoms; we like to practice, but no babies
      • Gum, we don't want no stank breath
      • Clean underwear, just in case!
      • Duct tape; you never know
      • iPhone 6, 'cause we got that sh*t

      I’d love to hang with...

The Roots. They're f*cking genius... and we want to get on Jimmy Fallon.

      First festival experience

PV and MJE are festival virgins... AD and AS are festival whores. Tha's why we are bringing lube, duct tape, and wet wipes, because anything can happen.

      What’s your fantasy festival lineup?

Marvin Gaye, Jodeci, Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Frank Ocean, NWA, Missy Elliot, the Weeknd, James Blake, Jhene Aiko, Chet Faker, Flume, Boyz II Men, Majid Jordan, Fuggies, A Tribe Called Quest, Kiss, Tom Browne, Musiq Soulchild, Disclosure, MNEK, SBTRKT, Sango... We could keep going but we blew our budget on Stevie Wonder and the holograms of Marvin, Michael, and Aaliyah.

      What’s your official rider request?

40oz Grey Goose Vodka, water, and one Timmies double-double.

      That's it that's all!

Trivia time: what’s Squamish’s official slogan?

Squamish: Former home of Taco Bell.

The festival takes place at Logger Sports Grounds and Hendrickson Fields. Quick—what’s your favourite logger sport?

Midget axe throwing... New this year, sponsored by SJS.

SJS plays the Squamish Valley Music Festival's Blueprint Arena at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 10.
