It's down to the final five home cooks on MasterChef Canada—and a B.C. contestant is in the running.

Shawn Karls from Montreal narrowly missed the final cut. Karls was eliminated on the May 8 episode after failing to pass a pressure test involving a customized version of Charlotte cake.

After a two-week break, the next episode with the final five competitors will be aired on May 29 at 7 p.m. on CTV.

The cooks will face a challenge inspired by judge and chef Michael Bonacini's cuisine, and an elimination challenge involving dishes inspired by classic cocktails.

The final five cooks competing for the $100,000 cash prize and title of MasterChef Canada consist of:

      • Matthew Astorga, from Pitt Meadows, B.C.
      • April Lee Baker, from Calgary, Alberta
      • Jeremy Senaris, from Winnipeg, Manitoba
      • Mary Berg, from Toronto, Ontario
      • Veronica Cham, from Toronto, Ontario

Astorga is the last home cook out of five B.C. competitors who were on the show during Season 3.
