After 30 years of hating each other's guts, the Misfits reunite

For six years in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, singer Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only made some of the greatest and most enduring songs in the history of punk rock as the Misfits.

The band’s countless classics—who hasn't done the dishes to "Hate Breeders" or downed an entire bottle of Sailor Jerry to "Where Eagles Dare"—have been loved and covered by everyone from Metallica to the Dropkick Murphys to My Chemical Romance.

Then things went sour in a way that only Slash and Axl Rose can truly appreciate, an acrimonious breakup followed by 30 years of Danzig and Only sniping at each other in the press and repeatedly suing each other in court.

That makes this morning’s announcement that the Misfits are back together as unexpected as it is crazy.

Danzig and Only have not only finally buried the hatchet, but will perform on-stage for the first time since 1983 at Riot Fest, which takes place in Denver (September 2-4) and Chicago (September 16-18). Joining them for the reunion will be classic-era guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein.

That’s right—three quarters of the lineup that recorded the essential Walk Among Us is back together. Christmas, not to mention Halloween, just came early.
