      MRG Concerts West and Fource Canada present Santa Barbara indie-electronic band FMLYBND, with guests Olivver the Kid and Dark Waves. Held at the Biltmore Cabaret.

      Wisconsin alt-rock band the Violent Femmes tours in support of latest release We Can Do Anything, with guest Phoebe Bridgers, at the Commodore Ballroom.

       

      BENEFITS

      Hike for Hospice raises funds for the Vancouver Hospice Society, which provides end-of-life care. Held at Locarno Beach.

      Vancouver's only women's adventure race helps raise money to send over 800 kids and young adults to B.C.'s Easter Seals camps. Held at Swangard Stadium.

      Havana Theatre hosts short-form competitive improv from two teams of comedians.

       

      ARTS ET CETERA

      As part of Litfest New West, Kathleen Forsythe will give an artist talk in the gallery entitled Journeys to the Lands of New. Held at the Gallery at Queen's Park.

      An evening of improvised music and dance features musicians Makigami Koichi and Stefan Smulovitz and dancer Jay Hirabayashi. Held at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.

       

      DANCE

      The May edition of New Works’ Dance Allsorts features a mixed program of contemporary dance showcasing Desirée Dunbar's latest works. Held at Studio 1398.

      An original dance performance by Diskordanse combines the worlds of steampunk and supervillains. Held at the Orpheum Annex.

       

      MUSIC

      The Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra closes its season with a journey through the American songbook. Held at the Orpheum Theatre.

      Second Sunday Concert Series presents soprano Catherine Laub, mezzo Melanie Adams, and pianist Rita Attrot in a concert of works by Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. Held at the Roedde House Museum.

      Chor Leoni vocalists sing karaoke as celebrity judges offer their critiques. Held at the Lamplighter Public House.

      Local classical ensemble the Surrey Youth Orchestra performs works by Handel, Beethoven, and Saint-Saëns at the Chandos Pattison Auditorium.

      The Vancouver Men's Chorus performs classic car tunes and songs of the open road at the Queens Avenue United Church.
