Powell Street Festival’s shift to new site appears seamless
The 38th annual Powell Street Festival got off to a strong start this morning despite a last-minute change to its site.
The main stage is now located on the street in front of the Vancouver Japanese Language School & Japanese Hall, on Alexander Street between Dunlevy and Jackson avenues. Today and tomorrow, it will host a variety of performances including traditional Japanese dance, taiko, Kytami (recently featured in the Straight), and much more. Inside the hall this morning, there was singing and dancing by cosplayers. You can go on historical walking tours of the area, and an internment-focused tour of Hastings Park takes place off-site at 10 am tomorrow.
North on Jackson against the backdrop of orange shipping cranes at the port are the craft booths, and east along Alexander you'll find community booths and the children’s tent.
