Is a feminist vandal on the loose in East Vancouver?

After I blogged about Dude Chilling Park's crude defacement this morning, Straight contributor Michael Mann sent along a couple more photos of feminist-themed graffiti that has recently popped up in Mount Pleasant

Gender may hurt, but that's no reason to bring the wall into it.

Since the messages are anti-patriarchal in nature, I can only assume that an angry feminist must be behind these works. (You know, because all us feminists are super angry all the time; that's the primary reason we don't have time to adhere to your gender norms.)

Vancouver is notorious for crudely painted graffiti. Earlier this year, Commercial Drive murals were repeated tagged with poorly sprayed "NO PIPELINES" and other anti-oil messages.

And who could forget East Vancouver's Mohinder, the widely spread and completely pointless King of Shit Tagging?

All I do know for certain is that Michael had nothing to do with this. Leave his poor building alone, feminists!

EDIT: Found another one today (August 14)!

Anyone else find part of this vandalism spree?

why does it matter if it is aesthetically pleasing or not? It's a politically charged message...

      "It's a politically charged message..."

Just not a very persuasive one.

y'all are just hating because you don't think sexism affects you. you're probably a dude or an anti-feminist woman. Sometimes blunt messages are provoking.

I think the most frustrating thing about dealing with feminists, often, is their frequent unwillingness to recognize that one may hold values that happen to be in line with sex and gender equality and still reject feminist ideology.

It's a bit like trying to convince a capitalist that just because one rejects their particular ideology, that does not mean that one also rejects meritocratic values.

It's funny how ideologues so often want to claim absolute ownership of the values their ideology merely adopted.

confusing article because this is written by Miranda. I assumed angry feminist was a single type, but now I see there are camps!

Note to feminists and the men who love them--feminism is not a set of arguments, but a set of beliefs. This is important because it means that at least as far as men are concerned the feminist is always right.

Feminism, by it very definition, is immune to criticism from men. The notion that a male feminist critic could ever win an argument and the feminist could acknowledge "Wow, you're really right; you've taught me something" is utterly anathema to the movement. In feminism the male is ALWAYS wrong, and the woman always right, not because of her arguments, but merely and simply because of her gender, because she is "oppressed."

It is this sort of hypocrisy--the way in which feminism has recreated the very silencing of the other gender that it supposedly hates--that has driven lots of thoughtful, woman loving, equality-supporting men to the conclusion that the feminist movement is a crime perpetrated on women and that they will oppose it with every fibre of their being.

True feminism respects that a woman has a brain and can engage in an argument. For this to be true, however, one crucial thing is required--that the woman can be proved wrong by a man. Until then...

Of course sexism affects me, but I thank no idiot for trivializing an important discussion by lowering it to punkass spray paint, that costs somebody money to fix. Think that person has had his or her consciousness raised in the direction you want?
