It's rare for an undergraduate student to discover a single planet.

But according to a UBC news release, physics and astronomy student Michelle Kunimoto has identified four planet candidates outside of the solar system.

The largest, categorized as a Kepler Object of Interest, has more mass than Neptune and is 3,200 light years away from Earth. Neptune is the fourth-largest planet in the solar system.

"Like our own Neptune, it’s unlikely to have a rocky surface or oceans,” Kunimoto said in the news release.

      She graduated this week.

The two other planet candidates Kunimoto found are the size of Earth and the fourth is the size of Mercury. It's the smallest planet in the solar system now that Pluto has been declassified from that status.

This video provides an animation of the orbits of the four planet candidates in comparison to Earth's orbit.
