Horror freaks rejoice: Scream Factory announces collector's edition Blu-ray of John Carpenter's The Thing

It ain't easy being a horror fan these days. For every decent fright flick that comes along there's usually half-a-dozen that suck.

Then again, the last two chillers I reviewed--The Green Room and 10 Cloverfield Lane--were pretty awesome. So there are exceptions to the rule.

Of course, back in 1982 John Carpenter made a HUGE exception to the rule with his remake of The Thing, which was a horror classic in every way imaginable--thanks in no small part to the mindboggling makeup-FX of Rob Bottin.

Today horror-video distributor Scream Factory celebrated its four-year anniversary by announcing on its Facebook page that it would release a two-disc edition of The Thing this year, with some as-yet-unrevealed extras.

"We are truly honored to have the chance to pay the ultimate respect for this popular and iconic film," reads the announcement. "Release date is planned for September. Stay tuned to this page within the next week for all the details including new artwork, extras, and more."

And just to be absolutely clear, we're talking about the 1982 Thing here, not that crappy Thing from 2011.
