      The 25th annual TAIWANfest takes place downtown Vancouver from August 30 to September 1. Canada’s largest Mandarin- and English-speaking event is hosted by the Asian Canadian Special Events Association and includes music and dance performances, films, visual arts, food, and lectures, workshops, games, and more.

      This year, several Taiwanese performance troupes will be showcased during the festival. The Elite Artist Trio is one of the most sought-after chamber music groups in Taiwan. The award-winning artists include pianist Sherry Chen, violinist Wen-Chuan Lin, and cellist Ya Limu.

      Chinese-Canadian singer-songwriter Moulann will also perform at this year’s festival, as well as bands Fire Ex, The Village Armed Youth Band, Fire Extinguisher,and Deserts Chang.

      An event called Symphony of Movies will see an orchestra under the director of Ken Hsieh performing scores from Ang Lee films. Puppetry by Pili Puppets will accompany the main stage performance.

      In terms of culinary offerings, TAIWANfest attendees will have a chance to sample over 30 different plates of Taiwanese and international cuisine. There will also be a rice versus noodles competition between two Taiwanese chefs.
