Photo: Dîner en Blanc Vancouver 2014 is looking beautiful in Yaletown

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Vancouver’s best-looking summer picnic is officially underway in Yaletown.

For its third year on the West Coast, Dîner en Blanc is happening in David Lam Park at the east end of Davie Street.

Organizers had a tough time keeping the popular event’s location a secret up to the 6 p.m. embargo this year.

Local broadcaster Ron Wilson noticed something white and fancy going on in the park relatively early in the day. And a few cyclists’ complaints were spotted in the Straight.com comments section where they grumbled about suspicious Seawall closures that began in the late afternoon. But nobody at Dîner looks like their evening was soured by a premature spoiling of the surprise.

Check in with the @GeorgiaStraight on Twitter and with Straight reporter @michdas for more photos posted throughout the evening. And return to Straight.com for a complete photo gallery shot by Andrew Chin that we’ll have up Friday morning (August 22).

Until then, enjoy a peek via the photo above.

So funny that my friend who lives across the street and has a toddler refers to that spot as.......the poo park! LOL

Seriously is Diner en Blanc the least ethnic event in town? It looks like an elegant KKK BBQ minus the white hoods. I also must note the irony of this feast vs the one that Travis is attending a mere 10 minutes away at Oppenheimer Park.

Ignorant comment. Learn about the event before passing judgement.

Oh I think the elitist comment was quite accurate. Was there last night and it was hugely disappointing. Not from an organizational standpoint - the event was beautifully run. It was just the guests that ruined the event. The most pretentious group of strangers imaginable, snobbery and elitism all round. Won't be attending next year. Anyone want my ticket?

I didn't find too many that seemed worthy of an elitist or attractive label. If their attitude assumed so then that's pretty sad.

You must have been very busy meeting all 3000+ guests to be able to make such a broad statement. Perhaps it was just the company around you. So I'm sorry if you met me and thought I was pretentious, snobby, and elite.
