Susan Tedeschi says Doyle Bramhall II has always been part of Tedeschi Trucks

Susan Tedeschi called me up from her home in Florida last week in advance of the Tedeschi Trucks Band show at the Queen E. this month as part of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

While we were chatting about her band’s latest album, Let Me Get By, I asked about Doyle Bramhall II, who cowrote and played on several tracks. Bramhall is one of my fave guitarists. I mean, that guy is Clapton good!

"He's always been sort of part of this band," said Tedeschi, "even though he's not in the band. But he'll come and do tours with us. Like he'll play India or Japan, or he'll come and sit in with us on tour. Last year we had him out the whole summer, so it was great because we had his band open, which was awesome. So we got to hear him every night. 'Cause I'm with you--he's one of my favourites. Him and Derek are my favourite. They really are. They're amazing, and they're amazing together."

"And he is planning on doing some shows out on the West Coast, it's just that he's finally finishing up one of his solo records that's amazing. It is so good. I think it's gonna blow your mind. It's awesome. I've heard like four or five tracks and all of them are amazing. I can't even...I want to buy it, and it's not out yet! [laughs]."

For more from Tedeschi–including what she bought hubby Derek Trucks for his 37th birthday last week–see the story in an upcoming issue of the Georgia Straight.

Read it on paper for that old-school Arc Angels vibe.
