Levitation Vancouver moves shows from Malkin Bowl to the Commodore

Hotly-anticipated Levitation Vancouver, a spin-off from the Austen-spawned psychedelic festival, has just announced a change of plans. Spreading 44 acts over three days and four venues, the ambitious event promised to be a feat of coordination. But just days before the festival is set to kick off, organizers have announced a major reshuffle.

With headline shows slated to take place in iconic Stanley Park amphitheatre the Malkin Bowl, Levitation was branded as one of the city’s bigger outdoor festivals. But a press release today has determined that, due to “unforeseen circumstances”, the June 17 and 18 performances have been relocated to indoor venue the Commodore Ballroom.

The move is bound to be a disappointment for chief organizer Rob Fitzpatrick: a fan of the city’s ability to host outdoor concerts. “Vancouver has this allure in terms of the natural beauty and the environment there,” he told the Straight last year. “I know that people call it No Fun City, but it seems like there’s really a great community of artists there. That made it fertile ground to take the Levitation brand to.”

It’s not just the setting that’s been affected. Levitation’s relocation indoors has further implications for ticket holders. While the Malkin Bowl operates an all-ages admission policy, the Commodore is strictly 19-plus. No longer able to accommodate underage guests, only customers older than 19 will be able to attend Levitation’s headline shows. Guests that have been affected by the venue change should contact Ticketweb before Wednesday (June 15) for a full refund.

The Commodore will open its doors at 4pm. Tycho, Of Montreal, FIDLAR, Allah-Las, White Lung, and Louise Burns will take to the stage on Friday (Friday 17), and Saturday (June 18) will see performances from Flying Lotus, the Growlers, Thee Oh Sees, Hinds, and Cherry Glazerr.
