Sadly, the dreams of a B.C. home cook to win MasterChef Canada have been dashed.

On the June 12 episode, the final three contestants had to serve 13 of Canada's top chefs using the 13 ingredients they were given in their very first challenge.

Pitt Meadows' Matthew Astorga presented butter-poached arctic char with pickled vegetables and carrot purée, Toronto's Mary Berg offered her take on fish and chips with pickled lentil tartar sauce and blueberry ketchup, and Winnipeg's Jeremy Senaris cooked a dish of steamed clams with green lentil and potato gnocchi in a white wine sauce.

Berg won the challenge, leaving Astorga and Senaris to face off in a test in which they had to recreate three citrus-infused desserts: white chocolate ganache, a lime choux with coconut sable, and a matcha tart.

Based on the results of the challenge, the judges decided to send Astorga home, leaving Berg and Senaris as the two competitors who will go head-to-head in the finale airing on June 19 at 7 p.m.

The winner will receive $10,000 and the title of MasterChef Canada.

Meanwhile, if you think you have what it takes to compete on the show, casting is now open for Season 4 of the series.

The deadline for applications is August 6. Application details are available at the MasterChef Canada website.
