PNE admission is free before 1 p.m. this weekend
Editor's note: In 2015, the Fair at the PNE is again offering free admission on Saturday (August 29) and Sunday (August 30). For more details, see this article.
The weather forecast looks a bit rainy this weekend.
That's ostensibly why the Fair at the PNE is offering free admission on Saturday and Sunday (August 30 and 31) if you get there by 1 p.m.
A PNE news release states:
The Fair sees 30% of its overall attendance come during the final weekend, and despite strong attendance and extremely positive reaction to the changes made to the 2014 Fair, the threat of inclement weather usually keeps a higher percentage of fairgoers at home. This unprecedented move will give guests an even greater reason to come enjoy the many shows and attractions that are here for just a few more days and won’t be back for next year. This is the first time in the Fair’s 104 year history that the PNE has offered free gate admission on the Labour Day weekend.
The release notes that Game of Thrones: The Exhibition, Superdogs, Dueling Pianos, and other attractions are under cover.
Admission normally costs $16 for people between 14 and 64 years old.

And only $20 for parking and you can get scalped by vendors. All in the name of fun.

The Game of Thrones exhibition is under cover, but you'll have to wait in line outside for about an hour as they let people in, seemingly one at a time.

It's OK Ralph, my guess from that post is that people who know you, are already well aware that you don't intend to have fun.

I went on vancity day and it was so depressing that so much of the fair is vendors selling you overpriced "as seen on tv" type goods.
I love the rides (which can be ridden outside PNE times) and the concerts were good, so that made it worth going. The PNE for all its advertising about being green is all about making consumption of useless items fun, which contributes to huge landfills.

Matthew,
You're not wrong that the PNE is a festival of consumption of things that we don't need, like funnel cake, but there's plenty of useful items in the show mart. Over the years we've gotten a clothes steamer, a wire things that unclogs sinks, an indestructible rubber broom - I still use this stuff all the time!

Close the PNE, and move it and Playland to Surrey's Bridgeview.
There, fun for all the families. And on a Skytrain route to relieve parking pressures.
Give the (PNE) Hastings Parkland back to the Parks board.
