Susan Tedeschi says that if Donald Trump gets elected they'll have to impeach him "for being a jerk"

Susan Tedeschi is a big fan of American president Barack Obama. Back in 2012, she and guitarist Derek Trucks—her husband and bandmate in the Tedeschi Trucks Band—were actually invited to perform at the White House at a show that also featured the likes of B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, and Warren Haynes.

They warmed up for the prestigious gig by jamming out together on the old Delta blues-style classic "Rollin' and Tumblin'".

When Tedeschi called me up last week to chat about the new Tedeschi Trucks album, Let Me Get By—which the 12-piece ensemble will showcase at its upcoming Vancouver jazzfest gig—I just had to ask: What happens to those sweet White House bookings if the unthinkable unfolds and those ritzy D.C. digs get passed over to Donald Trump?

"Not going there," replied Tedeschi with a laugh, leading me to wonder for a sec if she meant not going to the White House or "no comment".

"I don't know..." she pondered. "He's not gonna get in. He better not."

He better not indeed. But what if he does? Apparently, from what I've seen on CNN lately, it could actually happen. I shit you not! If Trump were to become president, I suggest that she and Derek maybe move up to Canada. Heck, they'd be totally welcome in my neighbourhood. We could be jammin' buddies!

But the idea of pulling up stakes doesn't go over so well with Tedeschi, who's lovin' the sunny life in Florida with her hubby and their two kids.

"No, I wouldn't move," she decides. "We'd just have to impeach him. For being a jerk."

For more from Tedeschi, see the story in this week's issue of the Georgia Straight.

Read it on paper for that old-school Delta blues vibe.
