Families encouraged to donate $40 per day to BCTF strike fund

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Today, Premier Christy Clark called on the B.C. Teachers' Federation to suspend its strike so both sides can negotiate an end to the shutdown of B.C. schools.

Clark also claimed that teachers are demanding increases twice the size of those agreed to by other public-sector unions. And she condemned the BCTF demand for a $5,000 signing bonus.

But the premier's claims haven't dissuaded some B.C. residents from opening their wallets to help teachers.

The Families Funding Teachers website makes it easy for parents to "regift their $40/day bribe money" from the government for each child under 13 in the public schools.

According to the website, the money can be forwarded via a PayPal account to the B.C. Teachers' Federation to support its strike fund. It's generated $2,382 as of this writing.

Meanwhile, former federal NDP candidate and author Michael Byers has announced that he and his wife Katharine, a school trustee, will be donating their $40 per day to the teachers' union.

Anyone else who wants to go public with their donations is welcome to let us know in the comments section below.

I've contributed to this initiative. I can't think of a better message to send to the provincial government who is spending excessive amounts of money to delay resolution. No one believes you Christy!

This is more meaningful than anything the premier and minister of Education have had to say.

As a matter of fact it is TRUTHFUL, THOUGHTFUL, RESPECTFUL, and could actually make a difference.

Absolutely agree! We will be donating our $40/day to BCTF as well.
The government can balance the budget all right if they make their cuts elsewhere than our children's future. CC DO NOT Fool us with your balancing the budget lie.
Come to your senses, cut down on good zillion layers of security and extra policing based on propaganda boosted paranoias and allocate some of that money wasted on gigantic unenviromental pipelines and start investing in 2 key things: FUTURE GENERATION & RENEWABLE ENERGY SOLUTIONS

I would love to see this amount skyrocket. What a jab it would be to her government's initiative!!!!

Absolutely NOT. As average wage earners we need
every last penny of that $40 dollars a day for our own children's bills and most certainly NOT to pay for a teacher's food bank fund. Daft, daft, daft. Teachers chose to go on strike and as a result they must live with the consequences of their decision.

Yup - great idea giving teachers money so they can keep striking and keep your kids out of school. "For the kids!"

Fantastic! They're taking a huge hit for our kids, easing that burden is the least we can do.

No way! This reckless strike is doing damage to the education of our next generation. It is also destroying this province's future. This is like a criminal act to take 50 million young students and their families as hostage for their greedy needs. Look around and see how general public's making. Shame on this selfish strike.

I bet that teachers are having a hard time by striking like we all are, any help is a kick in the butt to the Clark's klan.
