From the Vault: A Vancouver Classic by the Dishrags

It always pays to know your history. With that in mind, every Saturday From the Vault brings you a classic music video by a Vancouver artist.

As far as Vancouver punk rock is concerned, the Dishrags are Ground Zero. The trio of Jade Blade, Dale Powers, and Scout played the opening set at what is widely recognized as the city's first punk show—a gig at the Japanese Hall on July 30, 1977, headlined by the Furies. (Blade, aka Jill Bain, is the cousin of Furies frontman Chris Arnett.)

The Dishrags didn't leave behind much of a recorded legacy, releasing just two seven-inch EPs in their career. From the first of those, here's 1979's "Past Is Past".

BONUS TIME: As far as I know, "Past Is Past" is the only Dishrags video out there, but YouTube did yield this incredible footage of the band blasting through "I Don't Love You" at Gary Taylor's Rock Room in 1979. (Shot by Martyn Stubbs.)
