Ubisoft celebrates 30 years with game giveaways

Developer and publisher Ubisoft has been making games for 30 years. By way of celebration, the company is giving away Windows versions of seven of its games.

First up is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, released in 2003 for GameCube, PS2, and Xbox. The game was a reboot of the side-scrolling franchise created by Jordan Mechner.

To get a free copy of The Sands of Time, you have to join the Ubisoft Club, which is itself a free membership.

Ubisoft will release a new free game every month until the end of the year.

      Mighty No. 9 review

Mega Man fans might want to check out Mighty No. 9.

If you don't know Mega Man, you're not old enough. The series of games published by Capcom are classic side-scrolling platformers.

Mighty No. 9 is an homage of sorts to that era and genre of video games. It was designed by Keiji Inafune, who was an illustrator and character designer at Capcom when Mega Man was being developed in the mid-1980s.

The game was released last week for almost every platform you can think of. It's $20 for a digital copy.

Resident Evil franchise gets a competitive online game

Umbrella Corps, developed for PS4 and Windows, is a third-person shooter set in the Resident Evil universe.

The maps will be familiar to fans and include Raccoon City and the Village from Resident Evil 4.

Publisher Capcom has announced that additional maps based on the Mansion from the first Resident Evil game, and Lanshiang from Resident Evil 6 will be released free in the coming months.

A free "4 Survivors" mode is also planned.

Indie delight Oxenfree comes to PS4

This adventure game, about a teenage girl and a group of friends who sneak onto an abandoned military island for an overnight party, has been available for OS X, Windows, and Xbox One since early this year.

Now PS4 players can revel in the clever, artful game.

There are puzzles to be solved, creatures to confront, and through it all, players choose how to respond to conversations by choosing the dialogue that appears in speech bubbles above the characters' heads.
