Members of Vancouver's tech community will take a break on Wednesday (July 6) evening for a good cause.

They'll attend a 7 p.m. screening of Pirates of Silicon Valley at the Vancity Theatre, with proceeds going to Fort McMurray fire victims.

The 1999 film is based on the book Fire in the Valley: The Making of the Personal Computer, and highlights the rivalry between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

Noah Wyle plays Jobs and Anthony Michael Hall is Gates.

Joey Slotnick takes on the role of Jobs's colleague, Steve Wozniak. John DiMaggio plays former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, and Josh Hopkins is Paul Allen, who's now a Seattle-based billionaire.

Director Ridley Scott also shows up in the movie, played by J.G Hertzler. That's because Scott worked with Jobs on a TV commercial introducing the Macintosh to the world in 1984.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the screening, which presented by Startups Care and Eventbase. It's restricted to people 19 and over and tickets are available here.

Ridley Scott directed this landmark 60-second commercial announcing the Macintosh computer.
