Aliens 30th anniversary brings reunion at Comic-Con and special-edition Blu-ray set

Yesterday I blogged about how cool it was that one of my fave movies of the seventies, The Warriors, was gonna be turned into a TV series.

Now it looks like one of my fave movies of the eighties--Aliens--will be getting some much-deserved love as well.

July 18 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of James Cameron's sci-fi/horror classic, and to celebrate the occasion a number of the film's main contributors will take part in a reunion at San Diego's Comic-Con on July 23. According to ew.com, Cameron himself will appear at the event with producer Gale Ann Hurd, star Sigourney Weaver, and cast members Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, Paul Reiser, Michael Biehn, and the all-grown-up Carrie Henn, who portrayed the sweet little kid with the great name, Newt.

The bad news is, if you don't already have a Comic-Con badge, you won't get the chance to corner Henriksen and badger him into signing your VHS copy of Pumpkinhead or to hassle Paxton by yelling "Game over!" when he gets introduced. The 2016 event sold out in less than an hour back in February.

The good news is, you can always use some of the cash you would have blown at Comic-Con to buy the new Aliens 30th anniversary Blu-ray and Digital HD edition, which comes out on September 13. It includes a new interview with Cameron on the design and inspiration of the film, both the original theatrical cut and expanded edition of the film, a commentary track, deleted and extended scenes, collectible art cards featuring concept sketches by Cameron, and a book featuring art from the Dark Horse Comics Aliens series.
