Don't worry if you don't see the rainbow crosswalks at Davie and Bute streets

If you're wondering where the rainbow crosswalks at Davie and Bute streets went, no, it’s not a form of homophobic erasure so you can put down that placard and lower your fist from the sky.

Yes, the colourful crosswalks are no longer there. But that's because the intersection is being repaved as part of the Jim Deva Plaza construction. The plaza is being dedicated to local LGBT pioneer Jim Deva, the cofounder of Little Sisters bookstore.

According to the City of Vancouver, the rainbow crosswalks, which were unveiled in 2013 but have been looking rather worn down and faded, will be freshly painted in time for Pride Week, which includes the Davie Street Party on July 29.

An official opening for the Jim Deva Plaza will be held on July 28.
