      CONCERTS

      Las Vegas rock quartet the Killers, featuring frontman Brandon Flowers, plays the Commodore Ballroom.

      Detroit hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse plays Venue, with guests Spread the Revenge.

      Montreal metal band Beyond Creation plays the Media Club, with guests Rivers of Nihil, the Zenith Passage, and VACUUS and Exterminatus.

      The second day of the Pemberton Music Festival features performances by J. Cole, Kaskade, FKA Twigs, Flosstradamus, Method Man and Redman, Cold and War Kids.

      The 39th annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival kicks off at Jericho Beach, featuring mainstage performances by the New Pornographers, M Ward, Lee Fields and the Expressions, Jolie Holland and Samantha Parton, and Faris Amine.

       

      FORUMS

      Writer and artist Michael Kluckner moderates a discussion on graphic novels at the Vancouver Public Library's Oakridge Branch.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      YVR Take-Off Fridays at the Vancouver International Airport features live music, DJs, caricature artists, face painting, and paper-airplane contests.

      The Science World Slumber Party lets kids camp out near Science World exhibits and have a close encounter with Scott Sampson from Dinosaur Train. Includes an OMNIMAX film, gallery exploration, behind-the-scenes activities, and a live science show.

      Volleyball B.C. presents the first day of a three-day beach volleyball tournament at Kits Beach featuring professional players from around the world.

      Join comedian Alicia Tobin and guests Graham Clark and Sean Devlin for an evening at Hot Art Wet City Gallery that is part comedy show, part art class.

      Toronto actor and comedian Eddie Della Siepe performs the first of three standup shows at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

       

      ARTS ETCETERA

      In partnership with Indian Summer Festival, the Vancouver Art Gallery presents Fuse, a night of music, art, and performance featuring Luciterra Dance Company, multimedia storytellers, a music and dance lounge, projections, and a participatory mural.

       

      THEATRE

      Grad School Improv presents a murder mystery set in 1940s Vancouver at Little Mountain Gallery.

      Bard on the Beach presents The Merry Wives of Windsor and Othello at Vanier Park.

      Theatre Under the Stars presents West Side Story at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park.

       

      GALLERIES

      The Vancouver Art Gallery hosts an exhibition that examines the significance of the six women who were inspirational to the artistic development of Picasso.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      The VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world and almost two dozen sculptures.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

       

      MOVIES

      Screening of director Brian De Palma's 1981 thriller Blow Out at the Vancity Theatre.
