Video: Cycling from the Burrard Bridge to Point Grey Road

    1 of 2 2 of 2

Environmental designer Kathleen Corey and bike-lane builder Brian Gould have produced a seven-and-a-half-minute video called "Seacycles: Burrard Bridge to Point Grey Road".

It reveals what it's like to cycle across Kitsilano without coming in contact with much traffic.

(Don't expect to see any mention of the impact of this new cycling route on the value of homes along Point Grey Road.)

Build it and they won't come. The bike route on York between Cypress Stephen is never used as cyclists simply continue down Cornwall to Point Grey Road bypassing the route all together. This has led to increased cycling traffic on Cornwall which takes away one further lane for car traffic which in turn creates a bottle neck once you west of Balsam. While I haven't seen a cyclist killed yet, I have seen many near misses.

      Under-thought and over-engineered....

      Krake above is right on.
This video is a distorted fantasy. It contains no less than 26 clips of one intersection - the south end of the Burnard bridge intersection. It misses out the north end of the bridge and the bridge itself of course, it misses out Lower Point Grey and York entirely - and naturally - it is all shot on sunny summer Sundays. It also does not show cyclists now up MacDonald jammed in traffic that continues in sporadic bottlenecks. Not a lot of them, but enough to be dangerous, just as on Cornwall.

The point grey rd bike route is the Best! I cycle it with my children. It's the safest place to bike ride with kids. We love it ! I guess the cars will just have to get over it! We cycle the path and there are tourists, seniors, people who drove out from the burbs just to enjoy the seaside bike route. Why is that the
Negative people whine the loudest? The seaside bike route is awesome and used by everyone.

We would love to have something like this out our way. I will have to make the trip down there again by bike from Langley to try this route out.

And BTW, cycling is traffic as a part of the over all transportation system. Roads were not built for the exclusive use of cars, but for the transportation of goods and people. If you put all the current cyclists into cars and take away what cycling infrastructure has been put into place then you will really see grid lock.
