What's the new take on sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll for gay men in the social-media age?

      Sex, drugs, and Grindr.

      They're a potent combination.

Of course, the practice of using drugs during sex, or chemsex, is not limited to LGBT communities.

But a new U.K. documentary takes a look into the issues and opinions about chemsex by profiling some London gay men sharing their experiences and struggles.

Chemsex will screen at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival on Sunday (August 14) at 6:30 p.m. at SFU's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 West Hastings).

The screening will be accompanied by a panel discussion that will feature a number of local health professionals who will talk about chemsex trends and strategies for harm reduction.

      The panel includes:

      • London's 56 Dean Street sexual health centre substance abuse lead David Stuart, whose work is featured in the documentary

      • Health Initiative for Men's knowledge translation manager Joshua Edward

      • Health Initiative for Men's outreach engagement manager Matthew Taylor

      • University of Victoria public health and social policy assistant professor Nathan Lachowsky

      • registered social worker and Vancouver Coastal Health clinical supervisor Al Zwiers
