Dances for a Small Stage 31 takes place at the Ukrainian Centre (154 East 10th Avenue) from October 23 to 25. The live dance and music series presented by MovEnt and Music on Main will be headlined by composer John Oswald and choreographer Holly Small in their first-ever joint performance on the West Coast stage.

“In a departure from our usual concept of five to seven-minute dance works, MovEnt has joined with musical counterpart, Music on Main for an evening integrating live music as well as dance,” Julie-anne Saroyan, artistic producer for MovEnt, stated in a news release. “This type of interwoven collaboration has experienced an unfortunate deterioration over the years, resulting from a hyper-reliance on prerecorded sounds. I can’t think of two stronger leaders for this crucial renaissance than the grandparents of music and dance collaborations, John and Holly.”

Sharing the stage at Dances for a Small Stage 31 will be dance artist Makaila Wallace in a choreographed piece by Karissa Barry, Vanessa Goodman, Stewart Iguidez, as well as Toronto dancers Sean Ling and Jessica Runge. Additionally, the Toronto-based Cecelia String Quartet will perform two works.

Tickets to Dances for a Small Stage 31 are $20 ad can be purchased online in advance.
