Chor Leoni presents their 22nd annual Remembrance Day concerts, A Great Service from November 8 to 11. The November 8 concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Queens Avenue United Church (529 Queens Avenue, New Westminster). The November 11 concerts will take place at 1 p.m. at West Vancouver United Church (2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver) and at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church (1012 Nelson Street).

The choir will perform works by Holst and Schmitt, as well as Agnus Dei by Ghedini from Mass in D and Dies Irae by Stroope. Along with the choir, concerts will feature a reading from Christopher Gaze, organist Ellen Ay-Laung Wang, and pianist Ken Cormier.

“We are marking the 100th anniversary of the First World War by sharing the wartime poems and stories of Canada's own Robert Service,” Erick Lichte, artistic director of Choir Leoni, stated in a news release. “His harrowing, frank and sometimes sardonic writings will be masterfully presented by long - time Chor Leoni friend Christopher Gaze. This year's music ranges from Gustav Holst's stirring setting of Walt Whitman’s texts to the tranquility of Paul Mealor's recent work for male choir and clarinet, I Saw Eternity. Following Chor Leoni tradition, we’ll end with The Last Post and Rupert Lang’s beloved Kontakion, with the audience joining in on the refrain.”

Tickets to A Great Service are $30 for adults and seniors and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased online in advance.
