      Victoria-based punk band Freak Heat Waves tours in support of its second full-length release, with guests Tough Customer and Softess, at the Cobalt.

      American extreme-metal band Skeletonwitch, with Nylithia, Skull Vultures, Gross Misconduct, WTCHDR, and Torrefy, hits the Rickshaw Theatre.

      The Live Agency and Rednyne present Vancouver rock quartet Bone State Rebellion, with guests the Dramatic Finish, Luki Fero, and robots and gods, at Studio Records.

      Vancouver indie-rock band Pugs & Crows coheadlines with Canadian jazz-blues guitarist Tony Wilson, with guests Only a Visitor and Jenn Bojm and Khingfisher. Held at the WISE Hall.

      Deep-listening concert Quiet City #28 features performances by Kensington Gore, Psychic Pollution, and Panospria DJs. Held at the Lido.

      During a walking tour you can explore, with Maurice Guibord, at least five very different sites that are at various stages of their historical course. Held at various Vancouver venues.

      Walk through the forest with a First Nations guide and learn about the traditional and present-day Coast Salish relationships with local flora and fauna. Held at Stanley Park.

      At Science World at Telus World of Science, an adults-only evening lets you explore an exhibit on spy science, view an Omnimax film, and make your way around the galleries.

      Roundhouse Productions presents a laser show featuring music from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Held at the BCIT Planetarium.

      Master Sunita presents simple tools of healing meditation to exercise your brain and relax and rejuvenate for peak performance in all aspects of life. Held at Bob Prittie Metrotown Library.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      YVR Take-Off Fridays include free entertainment, live musicians, DJs, caricature artists, face painting, and paper-airplane contests. Held at Vancouver International Airport.

       

      SPORTS

      The Vancouver Canadians take on the Spokane Indians in Minor League Baseball action. Held at Nat Bailey Stadium.

      The B.C. Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders in Canadian Football League action. Held at BC Place Stadium.

       

      COMEDY

      Improv troupes the Radical and Inside Shoes present a comedy showcase at the Heritage Grill.

      Comedian Graham Clark and friends say goodbye to summer at the Hot Art Wet City Gallery.

      Canadian standup comedian John Cullen performs a solo show at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

      Brett Martin hosts a comedy showcase featuring Justice Fink, Justin O'Hearn, Sam Tonning, Gavin Matts, Jacob Samuel, and Lisa Person. Held at Seven Dining Lounge.

      Instant Theatre creates improv scenes based on suggestions of what makes comics mad. Held at Havana Theatre.

       

      THEATRE

      Outdoor Shakespeare festival Bard on the Beach presents showings of Romeo and Juliet and Pericles at Vanier Park.

       

      MOVIES

      The West Vancouver Memorial Library screens recent kid-friendly animated flick Zootopia.

      The Vancity Theatre screens Edge of Winter, writer-director Rob Connolly's thriller about two brothers who are stranded with their father.

      The Waiting Room, director Igor Drljaca's drama about a former actor who dreams of relaunching his old TV show, is screened at the Vancity Theatre.
