One of Jian Ghomeshi's final commentaries on CBC Radio Q focused on Ottawa shootings

1 of 1 2 of 1

A day before Jian Ghomeshi took a leave of absence from the CBC Radio show Q, he delivered a lengthy commentary on last week's shootings in Ottawa that took the lives of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau.

You can hear Ghomeshi's editorial in the video above.

Today, CBC announced that it had parted ways with Ghomeshi, who cofounded Q in 2007.

He has since declared that his dismissal was linked to the public broadcaster's fears that aspects of his sex life would be made public.

Ghomeshi has also announced that he plans on filing a $50-million lawsuit against CBC.

As of this writing, Ghomeshi's face still appears on the @CBCRadioQ Twitter account and YouTube channel.

I'm much more concerned with CBC allowing Stephen Smart continue to report on B.C. politics when he's married to Rebecca Scott- Christy's P.R. person. He was found in conflict of interest, yet CBC admin. let him stay. Now they fire an employee for fear that an ex-girlfriend is going to smear him with details of their kinky sex life? OMG, Canada, we are going down.

Maybe reading these before increasing his viewcount...

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2014/10/26/cbc_fires_jian_ghomeshi_ov...

"The three women interviewed by the Star allege that Ghomeshi physically attacked them on dates without consent. They allege he struck them with a closed fist or open hand; bit them; choked them until they almost passed out; covered their nose and mouth so that they had difficulty breathing; and that they were verbally abused during and after sex.
A fourth woman, who worked at CBC, said Ghomeshi told her at work: “I want to hate f--- you.”
[...]
Early last summer, the Star began looking into allegations by young women of sexual abuse by Ghomeshi over the past two years. The Star conducted detailed interviews of the women, talking each woman several times. None of the women filed police complaints and none agreed to go on the record. The reasons given for not coming forward publicly include the fear that they would be sued or would be the object of Internet retaliation. (A woman who wrote an account of an encounter with a Canadian radio host believed to be Ghomeshi was subjected to vicious Internet attacks by online readers who said they were supporters of the host.)"

Kind of ironic considering his shenanigans have pushed the shooting off the front page.

To think we, as Canadians, will never hear Jian Ghomeshi's plaintive, often mournful, and unifying voice ever again on our radios (and we won't) represents for many an incalculable loss.

Ghomeshi was this generation's Peter Gzowski, a cultural icon whose projected warmth in essays such as the one above captured the zeitgeist of our times, Canada's thoughtful, reflective commentator, a warm and calming voice amidst the tumult of our uncertain times.

I thought in Canada one was innocent until proven guilty? Jian has not been charged with anything, but has been fired from his job. So far the allegations against him are "He said - She said". In future will the CBC ask potential employees about their personal life and then play judge if it fits into their requirements or not? CBC should have stood behind him, not turned their back on him before he had a chance to defend himself. I have listened to CBC radio since 1970. This really disappoints me.

I agree with Raymond (above) on this one. Who made the CBC judge, jury and executioner of this fine talented Canadian - certainly not his listeners! (so he likes kinky sex,it's consensual and shoupd have stayed in the privacy of his bedroom. Here is an innocent man, being destroyed by a woman scorned and the despicable fear of CBC management, who sadly have shown us all that they will not protect even their most talented, from vindictive attacks; instead they join in the destruction. Shame on the CBC! Here is a man who is offering Canadians a multitude of gifts - ripped from us unjustly, because of personal prejudice and fear. I've lost all respect for the CEO and Govenors of the CBC. Let's hope that Jian's talents will find a new home. Jian deserves more than a public appology, and the weak executive responsible for his pain, deserve to be replaced. This is the peoples station!

The CBC has no business in the bedrooms of the nation. Who said that anyway...
