      CONCERTS

      Ghostfinger Productions presents American roots singer-songwriters Shawn Colvin and Steve Earle together in concert at the Vogue Theatre.

      The PNE Summer Night Concerts series kicks off with a performance by Hedley, as part of Kiss Radio Wham Bam. Held at the PNE Amphitheatre.

      As part of the Cates Park Concert Series, Jimmy McGuinty, Cassandra van Dock, Allie McDonald, Leo, Liam Sturges, David Fisher, Deceptive Resolutions, Kellen Saip, and Solar perform at Cates Park.

      TD Concerts at the Pier features music by Richard Tichelman, JP Maurice, and Harry Manx at White Rock's West Beach.

      Canadian hardcore-punk band SNFU takes the stage at Venue.

      Seattle indie-rock quintet Band of Horses tours in support of its fifth album Why Are You OK, with guests the Wild Feathers, at the Orpheum Theatre.

       

      BENEFITS

      Yogathon raises money for Care for Children, an initiative of the Art of Living Foundation that helps educate underprivileged children in India. Held at Jack Poole Plaza.

      A charity sale held at Sapperton Pensioners’ Hall raises funds for the New Westminster Lions Club.

      A screening of the Tragically Hip's last concert on its Man Machine Poem tour raises funds for the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research. Held at the Imperial.

      At the Astoria Pub, you can see a live stream of the last show of the Tragically Hip's last tour, with proceeds going to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.

      The Vancouver Orchid Society Summer Sale features vendors like Paramount Orchids, Forestview Gardens, Tropical Gardens, Kitty's Orchids, Will Gro, Richard Pearson, Eugene Bazinger, Vicky Earle, Sylvia Fabre, Margaret Prat, Daniel Kwok, and Hazel Stewart. Held at the VanDusen Botanical Garden.

      Highlights of Vancouver's 43rd Annual Rath Yatra include a parade and festival featuring a free vegetarian feast, vendors, artists, music, a kids' booth, and live concerts by Gauravani, Karanmrita, and Mahatma das. Held at Second Beach.

      The Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest includes over 90 food trucks, 24 shaded patios, and six beer gardens. Held at New Westminster's Columbia Street.

      At the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, Lisa Uyeda teaches you how to preserve your photographs.

      KIDS' STUFF

      It's your first chance to catch the Fair at the PNE, which features a craft-beer festival, the Summer Night Concerts series, an Angry Birds exhibit, magic shows, the Alien Worlds and Androids exhibit, the SuperDogs, a family-friendly play area, a dinosaur show, dueling pianos, the second annual Donut Dash, the sixth annual Vancouver Rib Festival Competition, and a discovery farm.

      Kids can bring their favourite teddy bear to Steveston Park and enjoy refreshments, crafts, live entertainment, and prizes.

       

      COMEDY

      Marginalized Comedy features standup by Tamer Kattan, Jessica Keenan, Zoe Rogers, and Movses Shakarian. Held at the Emerald.

      Jacob Samuel and Brent Constantine present news-desk comedy at the Little Mountain Gallery.

       

      ARTS ET CETERA

      The Vancouver Mural Festival celebrates over 35 new murals around Main Street in the Mount Pleasant and False Creek Flats communities. Held at Main Street.

      Highlights of the 23rd Annual Arts Alive Festival include artisans and crafters, a multicultural venue, a children’s activity area, artist demonstrations, live music, and three entertainment stages. Held in Downtown Langley.

      The Vines Art Festival features visual and performing artists along with herbalists, urban farmers, woodcarvers, and eco-consciousness community leaders. Held at Trout Lake Park.

       

      LITERARY EVENTS

      Annual outdoor-theatre fest Theatre Under the Stars presents a performance of West Side Story at Malkin Bowl.
