AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd charged with attempting to procure a murder

Things have not been rosey in the AC/DC camp of late.

First off was the news six weeks ago that rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young had been confined to a nursing home, suffering from dementia.

Now comes word that drummer Phil Rudd allegedly tried to have two men killed.

Rudd, 60, appeared in New Zealand's Tauranga District Court today, charged with attempting to procure a murder, after police raided his home on the Tauranga waterfront this morning.

That's definitely a dirty deed, although there's been no evidence put forth of any attempt to get it done dirt cheap--or even get it done at all. Innocent until proven guilty and all that jazz.

The drummer--who played with the band from 1975 to 1983, and again from '94 to the present--was released on bail, and ordered to have no contact with the man he allegedly tried to hire to carry out the murder.

Rudd, who was convicted of weed possession in 2010, was also charged today with possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis, and threatening to kill.

We're not placing any bets on whether Rudd is innocent or guilty right now, of course, but it should be noted that he wasn't even in the video for "Guns for Hire" back in 1983.

UPDATE, NOVEMBER 6: the "procuring a murder" charge has been dropped.
