If you love poetry and you think the Site C dam is an abomination, you might want to head over to Cafe Deux Soleils on Commercial Drive on Sunday (August 28) evening.

From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Poets for the Peace will host a poetry night to raise money to fund Treaty 8 First Nations' court case against the $8.8-billion B.C. Hydro megaproject.

The lineup includes some distinguished indigenous voices, including poet and performing artist Lee Maraclle, spoken-word artist and beat-boxer Jerilynn Webster (a.k.a. JB the First Lady), Valeen, Crystal Smith, and Kim Villagante (a.k.a. K!mmortal).

Musician Buckman Coe, spoken-word artist Sol Diana, and displaced Palestinian Maisaloon are also scheduled to speak.

Environmentally minded Vancouverites can also demonstrate their support for a second major B.C. river basin earlier on Sunday by attending the Vancouver FraserFest celebration near Granville Island. Buckman Coe will also perform at that event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at False Creek Fishermen's Wharf.
