Jian Ghomeshi firing creates a predicament for Q producers

I know, you're all getting sick of hearing about the soon-to-be-forgotten Jian Ghomeshi.

But as a former radio producer, here's one of the less-important sidelights to this scandal.

CBC Radio sometimes broadcasts reruns of its famous interviews. It helps fill the time when the host suddenly gets sick and there's no replacement in the building.

Reruns are also useful over holiday periods when the Crown corporation doesn't have sufficient staffing.

But after Ghomeshi was fired and his massive photos were stripped off the walls of the building in Toronto, CBC is not likely to play a single repeat of his show ever again. Not even on New Year's Day.

That means the producers of Q will have to come up with fresh programming over the Christmas holidays when it's not always easy to book guests.

Here's a tip for all the public-relations people who've been dying to get their clients on CBC's marquee cultural-affairs show: contact Q a week before Christmas and offer your story idea.

Chances are higher this year that producers might be more receptive to what you're going to say.
