      CONCERTS

      Swedish indie-rock band Peter, Bjorn & John plays Venue, with guests Bayonne and Jay Som.

      British trip-hop musicians and Morcheeba members Skye Edwards and Ross Godfrey play Fortune Sound Club.

      Canadian hard-rock band Monster Truck (above) performs at the PNE Amphitheatre as part of the PNE Summer Night Concerts series.

       

      FOOD & DRINK

      Black Hills' 2014 Nota Bene will be presented by winemaker Graham Pierce alongside several other wines from the Black Hills portfolio. Cheese and charcuterie will be provided at the Note Bene Launch Event, which takes place at Legacy Liquor Store.

       

      FORUMS 

      Through five-minute TED-style presentations at Hootsuite headquarters, local founders and leaders will share stories of lessons learned while building their companies. Participating speakers include Vicki Li (Lett.io), Dave Savory (Riipen), Zac Cohen (Trulioo), and Mike Gardner (Agreement Express).

       

      KIDS' STUFF 

      The annual Fair at the PNE features an Angry Birds exhibit, magic shows, the Alien Worlds and Androids exhibit, the SuperDogs, a family-friendly play area, a dinosaur show, nightly concerts, and a multitude of carnival rides.

       

      SPORTS

      The inaugural Americas Masters Games feature nine days of sports competition at various Vancouver venues.

      The Vancouver Canadians (above) take on the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

       

      COMEDY

      The Fictionals present an evening that features the creation of brand-new improv games at Café Deux Soleils.

       

      GALLERIES

      The Vancouver Art Gallery hosts an exhibition that examines the significance of the six women who were inspirational to the artistic development of Picasso.

      At the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art, Meghann O'Brien takes materials from the natural world and transforms them into human expression (above).

       

      MUSEUMS

      The Museum of Anthropology at UBC hosts an exhibition that features the carvings of Papua New Guinea's Iatmul people.

      At the Museum of Vancouver, you can explore the cultural power and significance of collecting through wall-to-wall displays of unconventional objects (above).

       

      THEATRE

      The musical comedy The Book of Mormon, which follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, plays at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

      David Blue

      Bard on the Beach presents The Merry Wives of Windsor (above) and Othello at Vanier Park.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      The VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world and almost two dozen sculptures.

      The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is an authentic representation of an age-old garden tradition that reached its peak in the Ming Dynasty.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge features seven suspended footbridges offering views 110 feet above the forest floor.

       

      MOVIES

      The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival celebrates the art of contemporary Latin American and Latin-Canadian filmmaking at various Vancouver venues. At Vancity Theatre see screenings of Brazilian director Glauber Rocha's Black God, White Devil and Entranced Earth.

      Screening at the Rio Theatre of the animated film Phantom Boy, about a super-powered boy who helps a wheelchair-bound policeman bring down a mob kingpin.

      Free screening at the Vancouver Public Library of the family-friendly film James and the Giant Peach (above).
