      CONCERTS

      Deadmoon guitarist-vocalist and bassist-vocalist Fred & Toody play Fortune Sound Club, with guests Willie Thrasher & Linda Saddleback and Sipreano.

      Mexican guitarist Samir Belkacemi offers a program of original compositions at Roy Barnett Recital Hall.

      British indie musician Barns Courtney plays the Media Club, touring in support of debut full-length album.

      Chicago dance-music duo the White Panda (above) plays the Imperial, touring in support of latest album The Pawprint.

      Canadian country artist Tim Hicks plays the PNE Amphitheatre as part of the PNE Summer Nights Concerts Series.

      The Richmond World Festival at Minoru Park features performances by Walk Off the Earth, Delhi 2 Dublin, Tanga, Sammy Chien, and De La Terra.

      The two-day Nikkei Matsuri Festival of Japanese culture at Nikkei National Museum includes a game zone, marketplace, music by Yuki Maeda, beer garden, and food trucks.

      The three-day 2016 TaiwanFest (above) kicks off on Granville Street, celebrating Taiwanese culture with traditional food and drink, stories, performances, exhibits, and films.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      The family-friendly Richmond World Festival features over 60 artists on seven stages, 40 food trucks, a culinary stage, a global village, the Your Kontinent digital carnival, an artisan marketplace, bamboo theatre, storyville, and a youth-filmmaker workshop.

      The annual Fair at the PNE features an Angry Birds exhibit, magic shows, the Alien Worlds and Androids exhibit, the SuperDogs, a family-friendly play area, a dinosaur show, nightly concerts, and a multitude of carnival rides, including the famed wooden roller-coaster (above).

       

      SPORTS

      The inaugural Americas Masters Games feature nine days of sports competition, running to September 4 at various Vancouver venues.

       

      COMEDY

      Standup comedian Rob Pue plays the second of two nights at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

      Vancouver standup comedian Erica Sigurdson (above) plays the third of three nights at the Comedy Mix.

       

      DANCE

      The 17th annual Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival continues with a performance at Norman Rothstein Theatre.

       

      GALLERIES

      The Vancouver Art Gallery hosts an exhibition that examines the significance of the six women who were inspirational to the artistic development of Picasso.

      At the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art, Meghann O'Brien takes materials from the natural world and transforms them into human expression.

      Landscapes and scenic paintings by Bob Araki (above) are on display in Beautiful Canada, to Sept. 18 at the Silk Purse Arts Centre.

       

      MUSEUMS

      The Museum of Anthropology at UBC hosts an exhibition that features the carvings of Papua New Guinea's Iatmul people.

      At the Museum of Vancouver, you can explore the cultural power and significance of collecting through wall-to-wall displays of unconventional objects.

       

      THEATRE

      The musical comedy The Book of Mormon, which follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, plays at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

      David Blue

      Bard on the Beach presents Pericles (above) and Romeo and Juliet at Vanier Park.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is an authentic representation of an age-old garden tradition that reached its peak in the Ming Dynasty.

      The VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world and almost two dozen sculptures.

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge (above) features seven suspended footbridges offering views 110 feet above the forest floor.

       

      MOVIES

      Free screening of the kids' movie The Tale of Despereaux at the Vancouver Public Library.

      The music documentary Miss Sharon Jones! screens at Vancity Theatre.

      Fresh Air Cinema presents a free outdoor screening of Ferris Bueller's Day Off at Lonsdale Quay Market.

      The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival (above) celebrates the art of contemporary Latin American and Latin-Canadian filmmaking, running to September 4 at various Vancouver venues.
