      CONCERTS

      Texas instrumental rock band Explosions in the Sky plays the second of two nights at the Commodore Ballroom.

      Chris Isaak plays the PNE Amphitheatre for the final night of the 2016 PNE Summer Nights Concerts Series.

       

      ETCETERA 

      Celebrate Labour Day at North Van's Cleveland Park with art displays and demonstrations, children's activities, and music by the Luke Wallace Trio, Viper Central, Emberfield, the Jocelyn Pettit Band, and the Jen Hodge All Stars. 

      Final day of the 2016 TaiwanFest (above) on Granville Street, which celebrates Taiwanese culture with traditional food and drink, stories, performances, exhibits, and films.

       

      KIDS' STUFF 

      Labour Day Fair at Burnaby Village Museum features juggler Matt Henry, the Urban Safari animal show, midway carnival games, demonstrations, crafts, market vendors, free carousel rides, and music by the Tin Pan Trio.

      Final day of the the annual Fair at the PNE, which features an Angry Birds exhibit, magic shows (above), the Alien Worlds and Androids exhibit, the SuperDogs, a family-friendly play area, a dinosaur show, nightly concerts, and a multitude of carnival rides, including the famed wooden roller-coaster.

       

      ARTS ETCETERA

      Vancouver theatre professionals reveal how they take the page to the stage at Bard on the Beach as part of the Salon Series of discussions and Q&A sessions.

       

      GALLERIES

      The Vancouver Art Gallery hosts an exhibition that examines the significance of the six women who were inspirational to the artistic development of Picasso.

      At the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art, Meghann O'Brien takes materials from the natural world and transforms them into human expression.

       

      MUSEUMS

      The Museum of Anthropology at UBC hosts an exhibition that features the carvings of Papua New Guinea's Iatmul people.

      At the Museum of Vancouver, you can explore the cultural power and significance of collecting through wall-to-wall displays of unconventional objects.

       

      MUSIC

      Bard on the Beach presents a staging of Mozart's classic opera The Magic Flute, featuring the UBC Opera Ensemble and members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is an authentic representation of an age-old garden tradition that reached its peak in the Ming Dynasty.

      The VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world and almost two dozen sculptures.

      At the Bloedel Conservatory you can take in more than 200 free-flying exotic birds and 500 exotic plants and flowers.

      The Capilano Suspension Bridge features seven suspended footbridges offering views 110 feet above the forest floor.

       

      MOVIES

      The music documentary Miss Sharon Jones! screens at Vancity Theatre.

      The Cinematheque presents a new restoration of Krzysztof Kieślowski's 10-part magnum opus The Decalogue, Sept. 5-7 and 11-14.

      Screening at the Rio Theatre of a documentary that follows the life of Slovak hockey legend Pavol Demitra (above).
