Today, Whistler Mountain opened five days earlier than expected, with many runs operating from from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The company announced that the Upper and Lower Ego Bowl, Upper Whiskey Jack, Upper Franz's, Papoose, Orange Peel, and Pony Train are all available this weekend, as well as a terrain park that can be reached via the Emerald Express chair.

Blackcomb, however, isn't scheduled to begin operations until Thursday (November 27).

The only other B.C. resort to open this weekend is Sun Peaks, which is four hours from Vancouver and 45 minutes from Kamloops by car. There, outdoor enthusiasts could enjoy an additional 20 centimetres of fresh powder.

“Last night’s timely snowfall was really icing on our cake for Opening Day,” Sun Peaks mountain operations manager Jamie Tattersfield said in a company news release.
