Justin Trudeau makes Vanity Fair's international best-dressed list, claims he "used to wear capes"

As if inspiring a well-dressed paper-doll days after being elected into office wasn't confirmation enough of his style status, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has now made Vanity Fair's international best-dressed list.

Trudeau is one of many actors, musicians, politicians, media figures, and descendants of royalty named in the mag's September issue, which also includes Queen Elizabeth II, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. The list is determined from ballots casted by the "world's fashion savvy".

Some of Trudeau's best looks are featured in the lengthy online slideshow. Among them are the white-and-gold sherwani he rocked at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival (check out those strappy, toe-ring sandals!), a particularly Canadian combo of plaid and light-washed denim (he had to have been in Calgary here, right?), and the Bahamas-ready white pant and turquoise button-down he donned (with the sleeves rolled up—always rolled up) while marching in this year's Vancouver Pride Parade.

The Prime Minister also shares his favourite items of clothing ("a well-worn pair of jeans, my father's homemade native-buckskin fringe jacket") and his favourite accessory ("colourful socks") with the mag.

As for Trudeau's style idol? "Left to my own devices, Jack Sparrow," he says. "(I used to wear capes—oddly, they disappeared around the time my wife, Sophie, came into my life.)"

Thank God. But how badass would it be to see Trudeau jetting off from Parliament to international summits and back in a tattered bandana and leather boots?
