      CONCERTS

      The Georgia Straight presents Icelandic experimental rock band Sigur Ros, performing the first of two nights at the Queen E.

      Canadian rapper Drake plays the second of two nights at Rogers Arena, with guests Future, Roy Woods, and DVSN.

      Reunion show for 90's animated pop duo Prozzåk at the Rickshaw, with guest Christa Belle (DJ set). SOLD OUT.

      American punk-pop trio Blink-182 plays the Abbotsford Centre, with guests A Day to Remember, All American Rejects, and DJ Spider.

      California post-hardcore band Thrice plays the Commodore, with guests La Dispute and Nothing, Nowhere.

       

      BENEFITS

      The annual Terry Fox Run takes place in Ceperly Park, raising money for cancer research in the name of the iconic Canadian hero.

      The Ismaili Walk for Mental Health takes place at Lumberman's Arch, with proceeds to Vancouver Hospital, the UBC Hospital Foundation, and the Canadian Mental Health Association B.C. Division’s Living Life to the Full for Youth program.

      CMWAC 21st Anniversary Fundraising Gala at the Michael J. Fox Theatre features speakers, singers, and performers, with proceeds to CMWAC's work in educating the public about mental illness.

      The Lift Cannabis Expo at Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre Event showcases the expanding cannabis industry and the products and services it has to offer.

      Shop for antiques sold by over 80 vendors from all over the Lower Mainland at the Vancouver Flea Market.

       

      FOOD & DRINK

      The Greek Food Festival at the Hellenic Community Centre celebrates Greek food and culture with performances by the Elkelam Dance Ensemble from Greece, a Hellenic heritage room, and tours of St. George's Orthodox Cathedral.

      Eight chefs in eight kitchens cook eight sustainable local fish/seafood and pair it with eight salmon-safe local wines at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts' Slow Fish Dinner.

       

      KIDS' STUFF

      Playland's final day of the year features midway games, the Kids Playce, a haunted mansion, and rides such as Atmosfear, Corkscrew (above), Hellevator, Music Express, and Wooden Roller Coaster.

      Pirate Weekend at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery includes a pirate encampment, swashbuckling games, artifacts, and storytelling.

      Canadian children's entertainers Sharon and Bram perform tunes like "Five Little Monkeys" and "Skinnamarink" at the Orpheum Theatre.

      Vancouver's Terminal City Rollergirls present International Roller Derby Playoffs at Richmond Olympic Oval.

       

      COMEDY

      Comedy at Big Rock Urban Brewery by headliner Ivan Decker (above), with support by Lisa Person, Steev Letts, Katie Nordgren, Gavin Matts, and Randee Neumeyer.

      Local comic Patrick Maliha performs standup comedy at Belmont Bar.

       

      ARTS ETCETERA

      As part of the Vancouver Fringe Festival, ecccentric guides walk audience members through a 40-minute encampment of several mini-exhibitions of select artists on Granville Island.

      Kathak dance with classical fusion is performed at the Surrey Arts Centre's Naad Festival of Music, Dance, and Film.

       

      DANCE

      The Vancouver International Flamenco Festival presents La Musica Del Flamenco, featuring musical director and guitarist Victor Kolstee, at Centro Flamenco Studio.

      The Vancouver Art Gallery hosts an exhibition that examines the significance of the six women who were inspirational to the artistic development of Picasso.

      MUSEUMS

      The Museum of Anthropology at UBC hosts an exhibition that features the carvings of Papua New Guinea's Iatmul people.

      At the Museum of Vancouver, you can explore the cultural power and significance of collecting through wall-to-wall displays of unconventional objects.

       

      MUSIC

      Latvian classical accordionist Ksenija Sidorova makes her Canadian debut at the Vancouver Playhouse in a show presented by the Vancouver Recital Society.

       

      THEATRE

      Final night of the 2016 Vancouver Fringe Festival, which featured more than 800 performances by over 90 artists at various Vancouver venues.

      Bard on the Beach presents performances of Pericles and The Merry Wives of Windsor at Vanier Park.

       

      ATTRACTIONS

      The VanDusen Botanical Garden features over 255,000 plants from around the world and almost two dozen sculptures.
