Mayor Gregor Robertson will introduce a motion next week aimed at naming a public place after Pat Quinn.

Robertson's motion asks staff to identify "an appropriate place or civic asset to be named in recognition of Pat Quinn’s contributions to Vancouver".

The former Vancouver Canucks head coach died on November 23.

"The recent passing of Pat Quinn has inspired a national conversation regarding his lifetime of significant contributions to hockey and athletics across Canada," the motion reads.

"There has been outpouring of reflection in Vancouver on Pat Quinn’s work and legacy as a former player, coach, general manager and president with the Vancouver Canucks, and his extensive record of support for our local community."

The mayor wants staff to look at Abbott Street next to Rogers Arena as a potential option for recognizing Quinn.

Robertson referred to the former NHL player, coach, and general manager in his inaugural address this week.

"He gave his all to build a winning team—in good seasons and tough ones," he said during the speech at the Creekside Community Centre.

"To inspire not just his players, and not even just the fans, but this whole city. We remember him today, and for many years to come."

Council is scheduled to discuss the motion on December 16.
