The Interview to open in Lower Mainland cinemas—but not Vancouver

Sony Pictures has confirmed that The Interview will open on Friday (January 2) in select theatres across Canada, including three in the Lower Mainland—but not Vancouver.

The controversial comedy will hit the big screen at the Cottonwood Cinemas in Chilliwack, and the Hollywood 3 in Surrey and Pitt Meadows.

This is the first Canadian theatrical run for the movie, which was released on various digital platforms including YouTube on Christmas Day—bringing in $15 million—along with approximately $2.8 million from screenings in over 300 mainly independent theatres in the U.S.

It remains to be seen if any Vancouver exhibitor is willing to take it on, although it'd be a shame if they didn't.

Imagine, if you will, a theatre that allowed patrons to consume alcohol.

Since virtually every scene in The Interview has a recognizable local landmark somewhere in the background, the drinking game opportunities are mindboggling.

      Imperialism or Irony?

Wasn't this movie made in Vancouver by a Vancouver cast and crew, starring, written and directed by two Vancouver lads, partly financed with BC tax money?

@Imperialism or Irony, no, it was written by Dan Sterling, with a story credit going to Rogen and Goldberg. But otherwise, erm, yes.

This article ignores the fact that the movie is really really bad. It's honestly not even worth wasting your time to download illegally.
