A Toronto artist is sending illustrations of missing and murdered aboriginal women to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Yesterday (January 5), Evan Munday sent out a message on Twitter that reads, “@pmharper Elaine Frieda Alook was 35 when she disappeared on May 11 outside Fort McMurray, Alberta. #MMIW”.

It was accompanied by the illustration above.

Today (January 6), he sent out a second. “@pmharper Danita Faith Bigeagle was 23 when last seen in Regina, Feb 2007. She has 2 children, Cassidy & Talon. #MMIW,” it reads.

According to earlier messages posted on Twitter, Munday plans to send the prime minister one illustration of a missing or murdered indigenous woman every day.

According to an October 2014 RCMP report, there were 1,181 aboriginal women reported murdered or missing between 1980 and 2012.

"The total indicates that Aboriginal women are over-represented among Canada's murdered and missing women," it's stated there.

Munday has written he wants his illustrations to put the issue of murdered and missing aboriginal women higher on the prime minister’s radar.
