The Interview comes home at last

Based purely, I assume, on my recent declaration that a licensed venue should screen it in the city where it was made, The Interview will play on Saturday (January 10), Tuesday and Wednesday (January 13-14) at the Rio Theatre.

This will be the theatrial debut of the controversial comedy in Vancouver—which plays everything in the movie from an American TV studio, to the mountains of China, to Pyongyang in North Korea.

The Interview was directed by local boys Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, but I bet you already know that. Sony scrapped the film's North American opening just before Christmas when "terrorist" threats from the so-called "Guardians of Peace" gave exhibitors across the continent cold feet.

It subsequently opened in some 300 independent cinemas across the States, while a number of theatres in Canada—but not in Vancouver—also elected last week to give The Interview a first run.
