Dreadful weather forced Pope Francis to shorten his visit to the Philippines city slammed hardest by Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013.

According to a BBC report, an audience in a cathedral "gasped" when the Pope said he had to leave Tacloban in Leyte province.

He had planned to visit victims of the typhoon when an approaching storm forced him to leave.

Prior to the Pope's visit, survivors created an open video letter to convey the extent of the devastation and the lack of an effective government response.

These survivors are urging anyone who watches it to tweet to the Pope @Pontifex.
