Tom DeLonge quits Blink-182. Again.

Remember when the members of Blink-182 used the 2009 Grammy Awards to announce that they were getting back together after a bitter split? And how they made that announcement with all the enthusiasm of someone confirming a colonoscopy appointment?

Well, it turns out that their seeming lack of joy about returning to action was indeed genuine.

CBS (that’s right, CBS, as opposed to AbsolutePunk.net or HardcoreHarrysBlog.org) has announced that, with the festival season right around the corner, singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge has quit the trio. Again.

Bassist-singer Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker have released the following statement: “We were all set to play this festival and record a new album and Tom kept putting it off without reason. A week before we were scheduled to go in to the studio we got an email from his manager explaining that he didn’t want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors.”

Alkaline Trio singer-guitarist Matt Skiba will fill in for DeLonge for upcoming festival shows.

One of the biggest bands of the’90s, Blink-182 will be remembered—not to mention blamed—for dragging pop-punk into the mainstream. DeLonge previously quit the group before a 2005 benefit concert for South Asia tsunami survivors, leading Barker to state: “Tom didn’t call, but his manager did, and he said that Tom couldn’t contain his shit long enough to play a song for people who were suffering.”

Blink-182’s most recent record was 2011’s Neighborhoods. No one has ever requested a song from it in concert.

'No one has ever requested a song from it in concert'. I just think this closing sentence needs repeating.

@JMT translation: no one has ever requested to hear a song from their album Neighborhoods, in concert. sometimes people shout out song requests at concerts. they would not request a song from this album.
